Ammon Bundy, a far-right activist, was arrested on Friday night on contempt charges related to a legal dispute with St. Luke’s Health System. Bundy was taken into custody during a fundraising event for Emmett High School’s football team.
The legal dispute between Bundy and the hospital began in 2022, when Bundy and his supporters organized a series of protests at the hospital. The protests were in response to allegations that doctors and Child Protective Services had unjustly separated Rodriguez’s infant grandson. The protests resulted in a lockdown of the hospital and the imposition of patient redirection and visitor restrictions.
Bundy was found in contempt of court for refusing to participate in the legal proceedings and for intimidating witnesses. He was ordered to pay $10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning.
The Emmett School District issued a statement on Saturday saying that it did not organize the fundraising event and that it did not take place on school premises. The district said it regretted that the arrest occurred at an event intended to support student athletes.
