Success Story: From NWRC Student to Fashion Triumph – Aoife Harvey

Aoife Harvey, a successful Art and Design graduate, returned to North West Regional College (NWRC) to inspire students on their exam results day to consider pursuing their higher education at their local Further Education (FE) college.

Aoife, who recently secured victory on the BBC TV show ‘A Stitch Through Time,’ met with key figures at NWRC’s Limavady campus, including Luke McCloskey, the campus manager, Clare Heffernan, a Learning Resource Assistant, and her former lecturers Emma Dickson and Gaenor Speer, who are part of the Art & Design Curriculum Management team.

Her educational journey began at St Patrick’s and St Brigid’s in Claudy, but she transitioned to NWRC Limavady at the age of 16 to undertake the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design. She continued her studies at NWRC, completing the UAL Foundation Diploma, and eventually earning a first-class honours degree in Fashion and Textiles from Ulster University.

As GCSE Results Day approaches, Aoife offered her advice: “For those receiving GCSE results this week, I encourage you to explore the offerings of your local FE college. NWRC provided me with the opportunity to follow my passion. Now, having completed university and established my own brand AH Designs, I’m thrilled about my journey. Participating in A Stitch Through Time on BBC Northern Ireland and Project Fashion at the Culloden Estate, where my designs were showcased on the runway to promote slow fashion, have been highlights.”

Looking back on her experiences, Aoife expressed her gratitude to NWRC’s lecturers for their unwavering support and guidance. She urged students to consider their options carefully in the upcoming weeks, emphasizing that decisions made during this time can shape their future significantly.
