A University of South Carolina student was shot and killed early Sunday morning when he tried to enter the wrong house.
The Columbia Police Department said that officers responded to a call about a home burglary in the 500 block of South Holly Street around 2 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a man dead on the front porch with a gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as Nicholas Anthony Donofrio, 20, of Connecticut. Preliminary information indicated that Donofrio lived on South Holly Street and tried to enter the wrong house when he was shot and killed.
The police department did not say who shot Donofrio or if any charges will be filed. The investigation is ongoing.
The university said that its Student Affairs team is providing resources and support to those who may be affected by the tragedy.
